Bianchi Bicycles
F.I.V. Edoardo Bianchi S.p.A (pronounced bee-AHN-kee in Italian) is the world's oldest bicycle-making company still in existence, having pioneered the use of equal-sized wheels with pneumatic rubber tires in 1885. The company was founded in Italy in 1885 and in addition to bicycles it produced motorcycles from 1897 to 1967. In 1955 the joint-venture Autobianchi was created together with Fiat and Pirelli for the manufacturing of cars – Autobianchi was subsequently sold to Fiat in 1969.
Throughout its modern era, Bianchi has been associated with the Italian Giro d'Italia and Tour de France winners, Fausto Coppi,Marco Pantani and Felice Gimondi.
Bianchi bicycles
Edoardo Bianchi, a 21-year-old medical instrument maker, started his bicycle-manufacturing business in a small shop at 7 Via Nirone, Milan in 1885. Bianchi pioneered the front-wheel caliper brake. Since May 1997, the company has been part of Cycleurope Group, which is owned by the Swedish company of Grimaldi Industri AB.

Nestor (genus)
The genus Nestor is one of two genera of the parrot family Nestoridae. Together with the kakapo in the family Strigopidae, they form the parrot superfamily Strigopoidea. The genus Nestor contains two extant parrot species from New Zealand and two extinct species from Norfolk Island, Australia and Chatham Island, New Zealand, respectively. All species are large stocky birds with short squarish tails. A defining characteristic of the genus is the tongue, which is tipped with a hair-like fringe. The superficial resemblance of this tongue to that of lorikeets has led some taxonomists to consider the two groups closely related, but DNA evidence shows they are not.
Classification
All four species in the genus Nestor are thought to stem from a 'proto-kākā', dwelling in the forests of New Zealand 5 million years ago. The closest living relative of the genus is the kākāpō (Strigops habroptila). Together, they form the Strigopoidea, with comprises an ancient group that split off from all other Psittaciformes before their radiation.

Nestor (sternwheeler)
Nestor was a stern-wheel driven steamboat that operated on the Cowlitz and Columbia rivers from 1902 to 1929. Nestor was primarily operated as a towboat, and did most of the towing work on the Cowlitz River. During the 1920s Nestor was part of a small fleet of towboats operated out of Rainier, Oregon by Capt. Milton Smith.
Construction
Nestor was built at Catlin, Washington, (now west Kelso) in 1902 by Capt. C.P. Stayton (1846-1932), and named after his son, Nestor W. Stayton (1878-1957), who himself later became a steamboat captain and Columbia river pilot.
Initial ownership
C.P. Stayton had been a Methodist minister, who originally arrived in the Pacific Northwest in 1873, where he served as a missionary in Yakima, Washington until 1889,when he came to Catlin, which is now west Kelso, Washington. At Kelso, Stayton built the first Methodist church, and then entered the steamboat business, building Nestor and holding an ownership interest in the Kelso-Catlin ferry, which crossed the Cowlitz river before it was bridged.

Nestor is, apart from a given name, also found as a surname borne by Irish and Estonians.
In Ireland, it was derived as a shortened form of Mac Girr an Adhastair, meaning son of the short man of the bridle. It was sometimes shortened to Mac an Adhastair. The surname is most common in County Galway and County Clare. The clan were natives of Corcomroe in the latter county, which in the Middle Ages formed the north-westernmost territory of the kingdom of Thomond. The Mac Girr an Adhastair were associated with the local lords, the Ó Lochlainn family.

In the summer of 1998, Marco Pantani and Bianchi delivered some of the most epic stage race performances of all time, taking stunning victories at both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. It's a feat that only seven cyclists have ever achieved, and it confirmed IL Pirata's place in cycling history and Italian culture.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pantani's spectacular double Giro-Tour, we have created a very special commemorative edition of the Bianchi Oltre RC for 2023.
Our historic Bianchi Oltre RC edition is exquisitely finished in the exact same paint scheme as the 1998 Bianchi MegaPro XL that Il Pirata rides during his incredible winning season. The frame and fork are carefully painted to reflect the spirit of those times. Even the famous Bianchi eagle head badge on the Oltre's head tube is a faithful recreation of the one that adorned Pantani's Grand Tour-winning bike.
The Bianchi Oltre is the pinnacle of modern racing performance thanks to its light and stiff frame. This is the perfect bike for Bianchi lovers: a bike worthy of paying tribute to Pantani's extraordinary feat and legacy. As befits a champion's bike, Oltre was built on the top Dura-Ace Di2 group, Princeton Carbonworks wheels with power measurement in the SRM crank.

It's packed with cutting-edge aero technology, including the new Air Deflector wings on the head tube. But how does it perform in the real world?
In this video, I take a closer look at the Oltre Pro and put it through its paces on a variety of roads. I'll talk about the bike's handling, comfort, and speed. I'll also share my thoughts on whether or not the Oltre Pro is worth the price or is it better to go for the RC.

In the summer of 1998, Marco Pantani and Bianchi delivered some of the most epic stage race performances of all time, taking stunning victories at both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. It's a feat that only seven cyclists have ever achieved, and it confirmed IL Pirata's place in cycling history and Italian culture.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pantani's spectacular double Giro-Tour, we have created a very special commemorative edition of the Bianchi Oltre RC for 2023.
